FAQ
Frequently asked questions
The questions we get before starting a project: pricing, timelines, code ownership, guarantees, and how we work. Straight answers, no fine print.
Pricing and budget
How much does custom software development cost?
It depends on the scope. As a reference, our projects start at around US$5,000 for small, well-defined systems (a website with a back office, an automation, a simple MVP) and go up to US$50,000 or more for complex platforms with integrations. After a first discovery meeting — which is free — we give you a concrete price range.
Do you charge by the hour or per project?
Both models. For well-defined scopes we work at a fixed price with delivery milestones. For ongoing work or product evolution, with a monthly bucket of hours or a dedicated team. We recommend whichever model suits your case best — not the one that suits us.
Do you require payment upfront?
We work with a partial advance at kickoff and payments tied to verifiable delivery milestones. You never pay the full amount upfront, and you always see working software before each payment.
Timelines and process
How long does a typical project take?
An MVP or a well-scoped system takes between 6 and 12 weeks. Larger projects are split into monthly phases with usable partial deliveries. You see concrete progress from the first week — we work with weekly demos, not status reports.
What is it like to work with you day to day?
A direct channel (Slack, WhatsApp, or whatever you use), weekly demos of working software, and documented decisions. No account managers in between: you talk directly to the people building your system.
Can you start right away?
We can usually start within 1 to 2 weeks of proposal approval. If your project is urgent, let us know and we'll look at the calendar together.
Ownership and guarantees
Do I own the code?
Yes, always and without exceptions. Source code, documentation, repositories, and credentials all end up in your name. There is no lock-in with Freshwork.
What guarantee do you offer on deliverables?
We fix defects in what we deliver at no cost during the period agreed in the proposal. In addition, every delivery goes through code review and testing before reaching production.
Do you sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs)?
Yes, no problem. We can sign your NDA or propose a standard one before the first technical conversation.
Team and how we work
Who will work on my project?
Senior engineers from the Freshwork team — the same people who scope the project write the code. We don't pass work down to juniors or subcontract it externally.
Do you work with in-house IT teams?
Yes, in two ways: as senior reinforcement embedded in your team (staff augmentation) or as an external team coordinated with your IT. We adapt to your tools and processes, not the other way around.
Do you work with clients outside Chile?
Yes. We work with clients across Latin America and the United States, in English and Spanish. For US companies, Chile is a natural nearshore option: senior engineers with full time-zone overlap across the Americas, so you get real-time collaboration instead of overnight handoffs. For European teams, our workday overlaps with your afternoons.
Technology
What technologies do you work with?
Mainly TypeScript, Vue/Nuxt, React, Laravel, and PostgreSQL, on AWS or GCP. For e-commerce, VTEX and Shopify in addition to custom development. For AI, integrations with OpenAI and Anthropic models. We choose the stack based on the problem — not the other way around.
Can you take over a system built by another vendor?
Yes, and it's more common than you'd think. We start with an audit of the code and infrastructure, hand you an honest map of its real state, and from there we define together whether it makes sense to evolve it, refactor it, or replace it piece by piece.
Do you use artificial intelligence in your projects?
Yes, in two ways. We integrate AI into your processes when it reduces costs or unlocks revenue (agents, automation, RAG over your data). And we use AI tools in our own development process, which makes us faster without sacrificing quality — all code goes through senior review.
