What is staff augmentation?
Staff augmentation means adding our engineers to your development team, working under your direction, with your tools and your ceremonies — your repositories, your Slack, your standups. It is not project outsourcing and not a freelancer marketplace: these are senior Freshwork engineers, with more than 10 years of shared history as a team, embedding into your operation for as long as you need them.
The practical result is development capacity that scales in weeks, without months of recruiting and without taking on fixed headcount before you are sure you need it.
When does staff augmentation beat a fixed-scope project?
It wins when you already have a team and a product, and the bottleneck is capacity: a roadmap that isn't moving, a migration nobody has time for, a key person who just left. It also wins when you need a specific skill — Laravel, Vue, React, React Native — for a few months, without justifying a permanent hire.
It is the wrong tool when what you need is a fixed outcome with a price and a date: that is our custom software development or, if you are starting from zero, an MVP. And if the problem is an inherited system nobody dares to touch, look at legacy modernization — sometimes the right answer is not more hands but a different approach.
How do nearshore engineers integrate into your team?
Like any new hire, from day one: access to your repositories, your task tracker and your channels, participation in your standups and rituals, code written to your standards and reviewed in your pipeline. The difference from a traditional hire is speed of entry and flexibility of exit.
Time zone is where nearshore earns its name: Chile runs on US East Coast hours most of the year, so your standup is our standup — no overnight handoffs, no 6 a.m. calls. Every month we review performance together, in both directions: you evaluate the engineer, and the engineer tells you what friction they see in the team. If the profile doesn't fit, we swap it without drama — we would rather lose a month of margin than have you paying for someone who doesn't add.
How does the contract work?
Month to month, with no minimum term and no exit penalties. You can start with one engineer, scale to several when the load rises and reduce when it drops. The anti lock-in is deliberate: all the work lives in your repositories from day one, the documentation stays with you, and on exit we run a formal handoff. If staying with us ever stops being your best option, leaving has to be easy — which, paradoxically, is why clients stay for years.
Why Freshwork
Because we are not a marketplace: the engineers we propose are our own senior team, people who ship production software every week — web platforms, e-commerce, mobile apps — and who bring judgment to your team, not just hands. Fully bilingual delivery, your hours, your tools. Tell us which profile you need and we will reply with concrete names within one business day.
